Hello JK parents!

Today turned out to be another beautiful day! Here are a few things we did today:
Daily 5-The students enjoyed exploring books individually or with a partner around the classroom today.  Some students were sounding out short words on their own.
Language/UOI-The JK's put what they already know about different animals to the test, with a classifying activity.  We first had a discussions about what attributes makes an animal a bird, fish or insect.  The JK's then had to draw a picture in each animal category, paying attention to the different attributes they discussed.
Arts Night-Each student had the opportunity to work on a special art project to help decorate the auditorium for Art's Night.

Reminders:
-Ms. Anne would like the JK's to bring in a family picture by June 2nd, for a special presentation project.
-Arts Night will be June 7th and performances will begin at 7:00 pm.  As part of the JK performance, we would like to ask parents to dress the students in bright colours and to be wearing an Afro wig or 70's style hair (70's theme).
- Creature Quest will be visiting our school on June 2nd.

Hello JK parents!

today was another beautiful day! Here are a few things we did today:
Daily 5-The students were engaged in Literacy Centers and used letter blocks, books and puzzles to practice their phonetic skills.
UOI-Ms. Anne had the students engaged with a reptile graphing activity, each student got to chose their favorite reptile and placed a square on the graph.  The JK's discussed which reptile had the most squares and which one had the least.
Math-I gave the JK's a "test" today on how much they knew about Canadian coins.  Each student got up and had to close their eyes, I chose a coin for them and they had to identify the name and attribute of the coin.  They JK's passed with flying colours!

-Ms. Anne would like the JK's to bring in a family picture by June 2nd, for a special presentation project.
-Arts Night will be June 7th and performances will begin at 7:00 pm.  As part of the JK performance, we would like to ask parents to dress the students in bright colours and to be wearing an Afro wig (70's theme).

Hello JK parents!

It turned out to be a beautiful day outside today! We were busy with Journal writing and learning more about reptiles.
Here are a few more things we did today:
Daily 5-The JK's explored Literacy Centers and used a variety of manipulative to practice their phonetic and letter recognition skills.
Language-The students continued working on their short word and sentence printing skills in their Journals.  The JK's had to answer the question "My favorite reptile" and draw a picture of the reptile that they chose.
Math/UOI-We had a class discussion reviewing attributes of reptiles, the JK's also used cut out shapes to create turtles and used their creative side to decorate them.

Hello JK parents!

I am back! I was feeling under the weather yesterday, but I am much better now and was excited to start our Friday! Here are a few things we did today:
Daily 5-The JK's listened to a read a loud story titled Make Up Mess! By Robert Munch.
French-Ms. Hou had the students play a game of charades, the students had to guess the animal that the other student was drawing.
UOI-The JK's were excited to see the progress of the baby chicks in Mr. Ikbul's Science class.  Last time we observed the chicks as just little eggs, the students could not believe how big the chicks got in just a few weeks!  We came back to class to have a sharing circle and discuss what we observed and how it connected to what we learned about living things.
Math-Ms. Anne had an engaging sequencing activity that incorporated the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

-Ms. Anne would like the JK's to bring in a family picture by May 30th, for a special presentation project.

Hello JK parents!

It turned out to be a beautiful day outside today, the JK's enjoyed extra outdoor time during Gym and got to play soccer on the big field!
Here are a few things we did today:
Daily 5-The Jk's practiced their letter name and sound recognition skills with an I Spy game around the classroom.
French-Ms. Hou had the students practice their calendar vocabulary.
Language-Ms. Anne read the students a read a loud titled Shark in the Park, which focused on the word family "ark."  The students investigated what words in the story that belonged in the "ark" family.
Math-Ms. Anne introduced another money activity that extended the students learning, the JK's had to classify and sort each of the Canadian coins.

Hello JK parents!

I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend!  We started the day off with a Sharing Circle, as the students were very eager to share what they did over the long weekend.  Also, I had sent an email to all the parents to let everyone know that my due date has been pushed up and my last day will be Friday, June 9th, 2017.  I will make sure that report cards will be done before I leave and there will be a supply teacher that will cover the last week of school.
Here are a few things we did today:
Daily 5-The JK's enjoyed exploring books today in the Book Area, we also played a game of I Spy around the classroom using letter names and sounds.
Language/UOI-The students practiced their early reading skills and had to classify pictures of animals.  The JK's had to review what they had learned about the different characteristics of Mammals and Reptiles to determine which animal belonged in which column.

-Arts Night will be June 7th.  As part of the JK performance, we would like to ask parents to dress the students in bright colours and to be wearing an Afro wig (70's theme).

Hello JK parents!

It was another sunny and warm day outside today! The JK's kept hydrated drinking lots of water.
Here are a few things we did today:
Daily 5-The JK's enjoyed exploring Literacy Centers today!
Language-The students practiced their letter name and sound recognition skills with a picture and letter matching activity.  The students had to determine what letter each picture began with and had to match it with the correct letter and letter sound.
Math-We opened up our first JK Store!  We had a lot of fun pretending to be buyers and sellers in the classroom.  The JK's got to pretend that they were sellers, who sold items at the price they chose and the buyers used their pretend Canadian coins to purchase items around the classroom.  The JK's were able to practice using the Canadian coin terms.

-Please bring in Creature Quest forms and money by May 25th if you would like your child to participate.  Creature Quest will be visiting our school on June 2nd.
-P.D. Day on May 19th and Victoria Day on May 22nd, the school is CLOSED.

Hello JK parents!

It was a hot and sunny day today! The JK's enjoyed some extra outdoors time today during French class.  We also ended the day with all PYP students throwing water balloons at the teacher's, as part of the Spring Fundraiser goal that we surpassed!  End of Unit emails will continue this week.
Here are a few things we did today:
Daily 5-The JK's wanted to cool down inside and explore books in the Book Area.
Language-The students worked on their short word and sentence printing skills in their HWT booklets.
Math-The JK's were introduced to Canadian coins, the students had to match the name of each coin with a toy coin.  We also explored the different attributes that each coin had that made them different then the other (eg. the loonie is gold colour and had a Canadian goose on one side).

Reminders:
-Creature Quest forms are going home today, please bring in forms and money by May 25th if you would like your child to participate.  Creature Quest will be visiting our school on June 2nd.
-P.D. Day on May 19th and Victoria Day on May 22nd, the school is CLOSED.
-Casual Day is on May 31st.
