Hello JK parents!

Happy Friday!!!

Here are a few things we did today:
Daily 5- The students had an opportunity to sit and read/look at books quietly in the Book Area.
French- Ms. Hou had a fun game that taught the children how to say various colours in french, each child had a turn to find an item in the classroom that matched the same colour they were assigned.
Language- We continued practicing our letter D recognition, phonetic and printing skills with a writing activity.  I also asked a few students to pretend to be the "teacher" to teach the class how to print an upper and lower case D.
Science-The JK's started another apple experiment today using vinegar and learned more about making a hypothesis.

Reminders:
-I have placed a reminder sheet in each of the agendas for the up coming Show and Tell dates in October.
-SJA Parent Guild presents Family and Friends Fundraiser Movie Night! The date is Friday, October 21st.  Time is 6:30 to 9:30 pm (childcare is available) and the fee is $10.  The $10 includes ticket. popcorn, bottled water and a treat! If you are interested, payment and form is due by October 13th.

Hello JK parents!

It was a rainy day today, but we still had a lot of fun and did a lot of learning!
Thank you to everyone who made a contribution for the Terry Fox Run!  We all enjoyed doing our part this morning.
Here are a few things we did today:
Daily 5-The students listened to a story titled Sorry! that focused on teaching the students more about some IB Learner Attributes, such as being KIND and PRINCIPLED.
Language-The JK's have been doing such a great job with the letter of the week, I have added another letter! Letter D!  We worked together to classify which pictures and items in the Alphabet Book that began with the letter.
Gym- Mr. H taught the students a new game, Statue! They worked on developing their gross motor and listening skills.

Reminders:
- PA day on Friday, October 7th.  Thanksgiving on Monday, October 10th.  The School will be CLOSED on the both days.
-Show and Tell will begin Thursday, October 5th. Each student will have a day that they will be able to bring in an item that is special to them and practice their public speaking skills, by sharing with the class why their item is "special" to them.

Hello JK parents!

We had another fun day! We enjoyed our first Casual Day and showed off our clothing with a fashion show!
Here are a few more things we did today:
Daily 5- The students listened to a story titled The Show and Tell Lion and took time to read quietly in the Book Area.
Language- The JK's continued practicing their letter E recognition and printing skills in their HWT printing booklets.
Math- The students participated in a number printing and matching activity.
Science- We teamed up with the other JK class for a baking activity today, we made apple pastries!

Reminders:
-Terry Fox run/walk is tomorrow morning for the JK students, please have them wearing their GYM uniforms.  If it rains tomorrow, it will move into the gym area.  Thank you to everyone who donated, you my still donate money after the run.

Hello JK parents!

Another busy day today!

Here are a few things we did today:
Daily 5- We listened to a great story titled I'm Like You, You're Like Me that celebrated inclusion.
Language- The students continued learning more about the letter E, they practiced their printing skills by working in their Journal booklets.  The JK's worked on printing upper and lower case letter E and drew a picture of something that began with the letter.
Math- The JK students demonstrated their number recognition skills with a number matching activity.
Science- We continued our Apple Experiment today, using our senses to explain what we have observed.  Yesterday we cut an apple in half, one half was left open in a zip lock bag and the other half was sealed closed.  The JK students each made a hypothesis about what would happen: "It will turn brown," "it will stay fresh."

Reminders:
-School Bake Sale continues tomorrow, if you would like your child to purchase some treats please have them bring in some money in a labelled zip lock bag.
-Tomorrow is Casual Day, for those who have paid for the fee your may come to school in their everyday attire and not in uniform.

Hello JK parents!

Happy Monday! I hope that everyone had a restful weekend.

Here are a few things we did today:

Daily 5-The students listened to a story about Pete the Cat and the Secret Life of Teachers.
LanguageThe JK's were introduced to the letter of the week, letter E! We explored pictures and items inside the Alphabet Box that began with the letter E that helped us practice our phonetic skills.  The students demonstrated their letter E recognition skills with a search and find activity sheet.
Math- We had a lot of fun learning more about measuring with an apple measuring activity.  Each student first guessed how many apples tall they were and took turns measuring how tall they were.

Reminders:
-School Bake Sale September 27th and 28th!  Student't may bring in money in a labelled zip lock bag, prices vary from $1-$2.
-Lunch form and payment for October are due September 30th.
-After School form and payment are due September 27th.
-We will begin our class Show and Tell in October!
-Terry Fox is this Friday, September 30th.  JK's will be running/walking in the school's parking lot, which will be closed for that period of time.  Students are asked to wear GYM uniform on that day.
-There will be a Yoga class that will be available to all students as an After School program beginning October 5th

Hello JK parents!

Happy Friday!!!

Here are a few things we did today:
French- The Jk's continued practicing counting in French with Ms. Hou, each child took turns counting manipulative.
Daily 5- We listened to another Robert Munch book titled Zoom that illustrated the importance of celebrating differences.
Language-The students were focused and worked on their letter F printing skills in their work books.
Science-We explored our 5 senses and extended our learning from yesterdays trip with an apple experiment.

Hello JK parents!

We are halfway there and tomorrow is the big day!  The students are all very excited and looking forward for the trip tomorrow!

Here are a few things we did today:

French-The students practiced counting from 1 to 10 in french today with Ms. Hou.
Daily 5- I read a story titled From the Apply Trees to Cider Please by Felicia Chernesky, it was a great introduction for the students to get them ready for tomorrows trip.  My little inquirers had lots of questions about the book and trip: "What is cider?", "will we eat apples tomorrow?", "Are we going to climb trees?"
Language- We continued learning more about the letter F and practiced our printing skills with our Journal Booklets.  The students worked on printing upper case and lower case letter F.
Math- The JK's demonstrated their number recognition and numeracy skills with an interactive apply and number mat activity.

Reminders:
-Please have your child here by 9:00 am, the bus will leave at 9:30 am.  All students are to wear their gym uniforms for the trip with running shoes.  Parent volunteers are to meet us at the farm.  Students will bring their backpacks, please send a few snacks for them to have.  Lunch will be eaten when we all return back by 2:30 pm.
-Scholastic book orders are due this Friday, September 23 rd if you are paying with a cheque.

Hello JK parents!

We had another busy day today!

Here are a few things that we did today:
Daily 5-We listened to another story I Have to Go Pee that reminded the students about the importance of trying to go to the bathroom at school.
Language-The students continued to work on their phonetic and letter recognition skills with a letter F activity.
Math- We all had fun exploring on the carpet today and practiced our number recognition skills, using pip cleaners and beads!

Reminders:
-Our trip to Chudleigh's Farm is this Thursday, September 22 nd.  Please make sure to be at school by 9:00 am, for parent volunteers you may drive to the location with your child or meet us there.  
- All students need to have at least 3 pairs of shoes for school 1) all black dress shoes 2) indoor shoes 3) gym shoes
