Hello JK parents!

Happy Halloween! Everyone had so much fun participating in all the Halloween activities!  The JK students had the opportunity to show off their costumes and handed out their treats!  We played Halloween BINGO and created spooky ghosts using markers and stickers.  At the end of the day, the whole school danced away in the gym for a dance party!

Thank you to all the parents who gave treats!

Reminders:
-Classroom Basket Auction! The Parent Guild has partnered up with each class to create themed baskets that will be auctioned off at the school Christmas concert on December 21st.  The theme for our class basket will be "Movie Night!" If you would like to donate an item or make a monetary donation, please fill out the form that I placed in each of your child's Take Home bags.

Hello JK parents!

Happy Friday and I hope everyone has a relaxing and fun weekend!
Here are a few things we did today:
Daily 5-The students took some time for themselves and looked at books in the Book Area.
Halloween Activity-To prepare for our big Halloween party on Monday, the students created their own Halloween treat bags to hold all their treats and to take home.
Math-We focused on some Math assessments in class today to prepare us for the next unit Patterns!

Reminders:
-Monday, October 31st is our Halloween Party! Students may dress up, costume weapons are not allowed at school.

Hello JK parents!

We all did a great job smiling for our school pictures today!
Here are a few things we did today:
Daily 5-The students listened to a read a loud titled Seeing Red by Robert Munch.
Language-We continued learning more about the letter L and practiced our printing skills in our HWT booklets.
Math-The JK's incorporated their math and creativity skills, creating monster faces!

Reminders:
-October 31 will be a school Halloween Party! Students may dress up and bring in peanut free treats for their friends.  There is 17 students in our class if any parents were thinking of packaging them separate.  Students will take home their treats and will not eat or open them at school.

Hello JK parents!

It's great to be back again!
Here are a few things we did today:
Daily 5-The students had some quiet time in the Book Area today and were able to read books individually or with a friend.
French-Ms. Hou taught the students a new Halloween song in french C'est l'Halloween!
Language-We learned a lot about the letter L today with a fun Hide and Seek game and practiced  printing upper and lower case letter L.
Math-The JK's finished their Spider Number booklet they started yesterday.

Reminders:
-School Picture day is tomorrow, students are to be dressed in their full uniforms.
-Halloween Party is on Monday, October 31st.  Students may dress up and bring in peanut free treats for their friends.  If you would like to have individual bags for the students, you only have to put your child's name on the bags.  Students will open their bag of treats at home and not at school.

-Art Reach: St. Jude’s Academy is excited to welcome back to our school the talented artists from ArtReach Mississauga to lead exciting art workshops for our students.  Students will have a chance to join the ArtReach professionals for a two hour workshop at SJA that focuses on engaging and comprehensive visual art activities. ArtReach will be joining SJA on November 30th, December 1st and December 2nd. The cost of the workshop is $15.00.  This cost includes the workshop fee, and all materials.  Forms and fees are due back to the school by November 3rd, 2016.

Hello JK parents!

Happy Monday!!! I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and are ready to begin a new week!
Here are a few things we did today:
Daily 5-Students wanted to have some quite time to themselves and took the opportunity to look at books in the Book Area, individually or with a partner.
Language-We learned about the letter K today and the JK's enjoyed playing a search and find game using picture cards.
Math-We continued our Data Management Unit and worked on graphing and counting fall items.

Reminders:
-The weather is getting colder outside and to prepare students for their outdoor exploration time, please have students dressed accordingly ( jacket, outdoor boots, cloves and a hat).
-There are still a few students who have not brought in their $2 for their gourd art activity with Ms. Kerr, if you would like your child to participate please bring it in by Wednesday.
-School Picture day is October 27th, students are to be dressed in their full uniforms.
-Casual day on Wednesday, October 26th.
-Bake Sale on October 25th and 26th, if your child would like to purchase some treats please bring in money in a labelled zip lock bag.

Hello JK parents!

It's the weekend! I hope everyone has a safe and relaxing weekend!
Here are a few things we did today:
Daily 5-Students had the opportunity to read quietly to themselves or with a partner in the Book Area.
Language-We reviewed the letters M and H with a fun I Spy game, using picture cards!
Math-The class worked together to collect data with a My Favorite Colour graph.  We found out more about each other and that pink was the most popular colour for the class!

Reminders:
-There are still a few students who have not brought in their $2 for a special gourd art activity with Ms. Kerr, if you would like your child to participate please have it available in a labelled zip lock bag for Monday.
-November Hot Lunch form and money due October 24th.
-Scholastic book order due October 26th.
-School Picture Day on October 27th.

Hello JK parents!

It was a rainy indoor kind of day today, but we got a lot of things done!
The rest of the students who presented their All About Me Bags today, also did a great job!  We learned a lot about each other.

Here are a few things we did today:
Daily 5-The students listened to a read a loud story titled If a Dragon Lived Inside....The students enjoyed the silly story and exploring their imaginations.
Language-The JK students practiced their letter H printing skills and worked on their HWT booklets.
Math-We worked together on a new class graph and collected data to answer the question: My Favorite Thing to Do With My Family and the students had two choices 1)Watch a movie or 2)Play at the park? We found out with the graph that most of the students enjoyed "watching a movie."

Hello JK parents!

The students who were assigned to present today for their All About Me bag, all did a fantastic job!
Here are few more things we did today:
Daily 5-Students wanted to read on their own and enjoy some quite time in the Book Area.
Art-Ms. Kerr was away today, so the students had fun matching colours and numbers with Mrs. R today in the classroom!
Language-The JK's were engaged with a memory game today that taught them words that began with the letter H.
 *Pictures from yesterday's outdoor exploration time!

Reminders:
-Tomorrow our All About Me bag presentations will continue, here are the presenters: Bryana, Ronan, Ahaan, Sianna, Izyan, Victoria and Veer.
-Ms. Hou would like all students to bring in their favorite toy in tomorrow for a special French activity.
-School Picture Day! October 27th.
-Scholastic book orders due October 26th (cheques only or order online).

Hello JK parents!

The students had the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful weather outside today, with some extra out door exploration time!
Here are a few things we did today:
Daily 5-Students listened to a read a loud story titled Aaron's Hair by: Robert Munch.
French-Ms. Hou taught the students a new song Mon Petit Ballon!
Language-The JK's continued to practice their letter recognition, sound and printing skills with another letter M activity.  They enjoyed watching and listening to a letter M song on the computer that taught them a song about words that began with the letter M and worked in their HWT booklets.
Math-The students collaborated as a group on a another graph and shared with the class by spelling their names to answer the question: How Many Letter's in My Name?

Reminders:
-Scholastic Book Orders are due October 26th.  Cheques will only be accepted, not cash and you may also order online.
-First group of My All About Me Bag presenters will begin tomorrow:Giovanni, Zane, Veda, Eric, Alyaan, Julieta, Zayn, Armaan and Yahvi.

Hello JK parents!

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!

Here are a things we did today:
Daily 5-The students listen to a read a loud story titled It's Not Fair! Which demonstrated IB attributes Caring and Principled.
Language-The JK's were engaged with a hands on picture card and word activity that focused on the letter M.
Math-We worked on two graph's today! Both graphs taught the students about collecting data and learning how to read the information given.  The first graph was focused on What's Your Favorite Way to Eat a Pumpkin and the second graph was the ongoing class graph My Favorite Thing to Do in Fall.

Reminders:
-November Hot Lunch forms and money are due October 24th.
-All About Me Bags that were sent home on Friday are due October 19th and 20th.  Each child is assigned a presentation date.
-Halloween Party! Monday, October 31st at school.  Students are welcome to dress up and bring in any nut free treats if you would like to give to their fellow students.  Treats will be put in a bag and will not be eaten at school, but will be saved for home.

Hello JK parents!

Happy Friday! The four students that presented today for Show & Tell did a great job!
Here are a few more things we did today:
Daily 5- We listened to a story book that Armaan brought in for Show & Tell today!  The students enjoyed looking at pictures of Armaan in the story.
Language-The students continued practicing their letter recognition, sound and printing skills with the letter N activity today.
Science-The JK's had a lot of fun using the pumpkins seeds from our Pumpkin Investigation earlier in the week, for an art project!

Reminders:
-Hot Lunch forms and money for the month of November is due October 24th.
-After School Care invoice payments are due October 28th.
-I have placed an All About Me Bag in each of the students Take Home bags, each student is assigned a day and are to bring in 3 items that are important to them (items must fit in bag).  Some examples could be a picture, a toy, book, etc.

It's been another busy, but fun day!
Here are a few things we did today:
Daily 5-The students listened to a story titled Why Are You So Mean To Me? It taught the student about attributes that showed being a good friend.
Language-We learned about the letter N today and also practiced our graphing skills, with a letter N activity.  The students practiced printing the letter N and worked together on classifying which pictures begin with the letter N and which did not.
Math-We worked together to graph as a class What is Your Favorite Holiday? The students worked together to collect data/information and figured out what the results were.
